Research Manager – Jared Oremo


Jared Oremo is a specialist in laboratory analysis and water quality innovations, with extensive expertise in water testing, lab innovations, and PCR-based wastewater analysis. As the Laboratory Manager at SWAP in Kisumu, Kenya, he has been instrumental in establishing and managing SWAP’s water laboratory, a research and training hub for local and international scientists and students. With over 13 years of experience, Jared has worked with leading research institutions such as CDC, WHO, JICA, KEMRI, CARE-Kenya, ICIPE, and academic institutions like Stanford University and Georgia State University. He holds a Diploma in Applied Biology and a Bachelor’s in Public Health & Information Technology from Maseno University and has received specialized training in advanced microbiological techniques, including IDEXX Quanti-Tray (MPN), HACH water testing methods, membrane filtration, rapid syphilis screening, and COVID-19 wastewater analysis (qPCR) from the University of Illinois Chicago.

At SWAP, Jared has led and supervised multiple large-scale research projects focused on water quality, safe drinking water, and public health interventions, collaborating with WHO, CDC, PATH, and global research teams. His leadership has been pivotal in projects integrating safe water and immunization, indoor air quality studies, and antimicrobial hand towel technologies. He also played a key role in the development of a solar-powered water treatment system in Kisumu, which won the 2022 Energy Water Global Award in Dubai. Committed to scientific excellence and innovation, Jared continues to drive technology-driven solutions for safe water access and community health improvements.
